Mt Gongga Trekking Tour Details

Mt Gongga Trekking, Mt. Gongga, situated on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, holds the distinction of being Asia’s highest summit east of the Himalayas and the tallest peak of the Minyak Rabgang range, known as Minyag Ganggar or “Minyak Snow White.” With an impressive elevation of 24,790 ft or 7556 m, this mountain covers an extensive area of 290 square kilometers, boasting over 20 peaks surpassing 6,000 meters and approximately 45 glaciers.

During the summer months, Mt. Gongga is enveloped in a mystical veil of clouds. The air temperature occasionally plummets to -20°C, and the majority of its annual precipitation, ranging from 800 to 900 millimeters, is received between July and September.

The precipitous granite ridges adorning the mountain’s northeast, southwest, and southeast faces have enticed mountaineering expeditions since 1878. For Tibetans, Mt. Gongga holds profound spiritual significance as it is revered as the sacred dwelling place of Chenrezik and the Tantric deity Demchok. Alongside other revered peaks such as Kailash, Amnye Machen, and Khawa Karpo, it stands as one of the holiest mountains in Tibet, and embarking on a pilgrimage to its summit is a lifelong aspiration for countless Tibetans.

The Minyag people, a distinct linguistic and cultural subgroup within the Tibetan nationality, exhibit similarities to other Tibetans in their adherence to the principles of Tibetan Buddhism. They reside in dispersed agricultural communities, cultivating barley and raising yaks. The trekking package tour provides a remarkable opportunity to immerse oneself in the vibrant Minyag Tibetan culture while basking in the breathtaking natural beauty that unfolds beneath the majestic shadow of Mt. Ganggar (7,668m).
