Tour Itinerary 8 Days Lhasa to Everest Basecamp Tour

DAY 01 - 03 At the airport/train station

Our representatives greet you and accompany you on a short drive to the holy city of Lhasa. As we traverse the Lhasa river within a valley surrounded by barren mountains, you catch your first glimpse of the magnificent Potala Palace perched on the red hill, standing out from the rest of the city. Afterward, you check into the hotel located in the old part of the town, known as the Tibetan area, which revolves around the mystical Jokhang temple and the bustling Bakhor street. Over the next couple of days, we have meticulously arranged visits to significant world heritage sites and Tibetan Buddhist locations while ensuring acclimation and alleviating jet lag. You have ample time to walk alongside devoted local pilgrims in the bustling Bakhor street, explore the busy cobbled lanes twisting around the ancient buildings in the enchanting Drepung and Sera monasteries, and receive thorough historical and cultural explanations from our knowledgeable guides. These days provide flexibility for your own explorations of the town and leisurely strolls around the Bakhor street. Additionally, we arrange special experiences, such as short visits to typical Tibetan village families or rare sacred blessings from high lamas, based on individual interests.

DAY 04 - 05

Following a couple of days of acclimation, you embark on an adventurous drive across the Gampa la pass and Karo la pass to reach Gyantse and Shigatse in the western Tibetan plateau. As we ascend through numerous switchbacks, reaching an altitude of 4,900 meters at the Gampa la pass, you are treated to breathtaking views of the holy Lake Yamdrok and the snow-capped Mt. Nyenchen Kangsar in the background. We continue our journey to Gyantse and Shigatse, passing through blooming glaciers and scattered villages. Both Gyantse and Shigatse hold significant historical and religious value since ancient times. Gyantse, known as the hero’s town, witnessed the defeat of British troops by the Gyantse guerrilla in 1904. Moreover, these regions boast distinct cultures and traditions compared to Lhasa. We visit the Gyantse Kubhum stupa and the Tashi Lhunpo monastery.

DAY 06 - 07

To prevent altitude sickness, we gradually ascend into the mountainous Himalayan terrain, crossing remarkable passes. From the ridge of the Gyatso la pass (5,400 meters), you are greeted with the first panoramic view of the Himalayas. Snow-capped peaks emerge like warriors among soldiers, enhancing the barren yet astonishing landscapes and photogenic villages nestled within hilly valleys. We approach the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest, with an altitude of 8,844.4 meters. The picturesque view of the majestic Everest unfolds before you within the Rongbuk valley. Spending a night at the base of the world’s tallest mountain, we embark on a challenging but memorable 6-kilometer hike from the tent guesthouse community to the EBC marker. Wild goats camouflage themselves amidst the rocky mountains, and EBC serves as the favored campsite for mountaineers. In March and April, the area comes alive with colorful mountaineering camps from around the world. Our farewell to the mighty peak is met with its striking golden view under the morning sunshine before we retrace our steps back to Lhasa.
