Tour Itinerary of Enchating Lhasa Group Tour

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN LHASA BY AIR OR TRAIN

Upon arrival at Gonggar Airport or Lhasa Train Station, our Tibetan guide and driver will warmly welcome you. You will be transferred to your hotel in Lhasa City, enjoying the picturesque views of the snowy Himalayan ranges and the snow-covered Tibetan plateau during your short flight or train journey.

The airport is approximately 60km away and takes less than an hour by road, while the train station is only 25km away, requiring about half an hour of travel. After checking into the hotel, take the rest of the day to acclimate to the altitude and relieve any jet lag. Overnight stay in Lhasa.

DAY 2: LHASA ESCORTED TOUR

Attractions: Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street, and Sera Monastery

Today, your exploration of the high plateau begins. In the morning, our guide will meet you at the hotel and take you on a leisurely visit to Jokhang Temple, located in the heart of the Old Lhasa city. Jokhang Temple holds great significance as one of the most sacred temples in Tibet and has been a hub of devotion for local pilgrims throughout history. Afterward, you’ll have the opportunity to stroll along Barkhor Street, a vibrant pilgrimage circuit and the bustling central market of Lhasa. While it was once the most renowned local market in Tibet, it has now transformed into a shopping center for tourists seeking souvenirs.

The day concludes with a visit to Sera Monastery, founded in the 15th century. Home to several hundred monks from various regions of Tibet, Sera Monastery is known for its daily afternoon debates on Buddhist philosophy, except on Sundays. Take the remainder of the day to continue acclimatizing and alleviating jet lag. Overnight stay in Lhasa.

DAY 03: lHASA ESCORTED TOUR

Attractions: Potala Palace and Drepung Monastery

Today, we embark on a visit to the iconic Potala Palace, an architectural masterpiece and the defining symbol of Tibet. Originally built in the 7th century by King Songtsen Gampo and later reconstructed by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century, the palace served as the residence of successive Dalai Lamas and their government. Climbing the long steps may be challenging, but the experience of exploring the spiritual palace dedicated to the God of Compassion is truly worthwhile. In 1994, the Potala Palace was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

In the afternoon, we continue to the Drepung Monastery, which was once the world’s largest monastery, accommodating over 10,000 monks. It served as the primary residence of the Dalai Lama before the completion of the Potala Palace. Although the monastery has suffered significant damage over the centuries, there are still plenty of fascinating sights to behold, including the labyrinthine narrow lanes that wind through the monks’ quarters. Spend the rest of the day acclimatizing and alleviating jet lag. Overnight stay in Lhasa.

DAY 04: DEPARTURE FROM LHASA AIRPORT/TRAIN STATION
